NEUROGRAPHIC ART* Super calming and by far the coolest thing I've learned in a while... and, I learned a lot of cool stuff about octopuses today, but that's a whole other blog post (maybe, if I remember to do one). As a substitute teacher, I have a gig teaching art to middle schoolers for a couple of weeks. I was left this amazing lesson on Neurographic Art, which has both calmed my soul and pushed my art practice forward...
* So, I could work real hard to find my sources and post the slide show that the teacher I covered for sent me, but then I would never post this blog and I would get all hung up on all that other stuff when I really just want to share the art. And I also cannot figure out hashtags but I really just want to post and not worry about that. So, whatever. Just Google "neurograpahic art" to be as inspired as I was!
Then I decided to apply it to an old artwork left abandoned. And I think it has been sufficiently resuscitated.
Thank goodness for ART:)
I'm having a bit of trouble getting in the poetry groove. I guess you can't force these things, So, I'll just relax and let it happen in its own time... After deciding this, I wrote a poem... inspired by an old drawing and my sleeping cat!
Bottom Left: The Process. Bottom Right: Oops, I woke up the cat; Miss Punga does not seem overly impressed.
It's going to be a creative year! And, to help with that, I've joined Creative Flow with Sara Waters January Challenge that I found on Facebook; I decided that it would be so cool to start the year out creatively and share it at the same time that others are doing the same thing! Together, we can be even M0RE creative, and good things are bound to follow:) Check out more & sign up, here!
Inspired by Christmas gifts...
And new & old art supplies....
In honour of this upcoming period of creativity, I decided to make an anticipatory project... and whilst reading the introduction of the collage lab book (pictured above and pictured here), I was inspired by a picture. Here's my version... an original mixed media collage, featuring my original photography (bird and butterfly).

NaPoWriMo, Day 7:
Hope Floats Anyway
Afloat, afar and away -
an angry balloon bursts,
Coasting clearly down,
Evil eats Everything & erodes, entering efficiently even when I
Fight for freedom from forces forever favouring the favoured, flavoured with fortunate fate.
The fight gets going & I'm greeted by grey ghosts gathering graciously in hopeful homes inhabited happily & hungrily by hideous heroes who hear holiness in idiots & ingrates, incessantly judging,
joining in Kindred kahoots.
We long for love lost,
Mourn for mornings of memories; of misty maybes through a mostly murky mayhaim of mindless,
Non-existent nonsense - Nevermind.
Others Only over-obsess obnoxiously, otherwise
Poor pretty perfect people possibly
Questioning -quos; Quasimodo
Rock stars sailing & soaring atop, too tall towers.
Terrible tragedies & truths torment us.
Wisdom-seekers wandering willfully
Extracting & exuding extra-hope, yakking & yapping, yelling & yawning, the yea-Sayers of yesterday have
#TinkerSketch prompt was clouds. It was challenging to write my poem, today. I just played around with alliteration & the alphabet -- ooh, an Abecedarian Alliteration Attempt! -- hey, it counts for a full week:)
NaPoWriMo, Day 3:
#TinkerSketch Prompt --> Draw to Music
SO I played a little Dittie on My Beautiful Piano (simply because I couldn't decide what music I wanted to draw to)....
Make some music make some noise
Forget about neighbours forget about poise
Blow a whistle bang a drum
Guitar or ukulele go ahead, strum
Get up and dance move your dancing feet
It's all good says Blue Cat Pete!
Move like a kid give it a whirl
Skip, hop or even twirl
Get some paper any will do
Even an old receipt that you already threw
The sky's the limit get out your pens,
Crayons can give your soul a cleanse
NaPoWriMo, Day 1:
The story of my poem:
Last night, I watched, 'Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey.' (* a Super Cool show - see bottom for more about this.) Today happens to be April 1st, the beginning of National Poetry Month and the NaPoWriMo - 30 poems in 30 days Challenge. I came across 'alliteration' at school (I am a supply teacher). My Instagram Doodle-A-Day Sketchbook challenge by @TinkerLab is Circles. All of this came together to serve as my 'prompt' for Day 1.
Dance of Life
Billions of barely visible - and, even then, only with a Very Powerful Microscope (or a VPM) -
Smaller than small dancing circles
Make up life.
They circle and dance
And divide and live and die
And change or die
LIVELY; they dance together and become greater than one tiny circle;
More alive and afloat, armed with allies in this Awesome dance.

* About Cosmos:
Like the legendary original series by Carl Sagan, Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, it is the saga of how we discovered the laws of nature and found our coordinates in space and time. Hosted by renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, the series will bring to life never-before-told stories of the heroic quest for knowledge and transport viewers across the universe for a vision of the cosmos on the grandest scale. It will invent new modes of scientific storytelling to reveal the grandeur of the universe and re-invent celebrated elements of the original series, such as theCosmic Calendar and The Ship of the Imagination. The most profound scientific concepts will be presented with stunning clarity, uniting skepticism and wonder and weaving science with the emotional and spiritual into a transcendent experience.
Today is a great day to create a great day.
This site is my attempt at gathering all of my creativity that I have strewn about out 'there'....
